Lesotho and Swiss teachers visit Richmond Park

During June 2014, we were delighted to welcome teachers from our link schools in Mokhotlong Lesotho, as well as Switzerland to Richmond Park School.

The link was aimed at providing their teachers with an insight into the education system in Wales, as well as to provide them with an opportunity to sample our culture and heritage. Ntate Leoto and Ntate Albert from Lesotho in particular benefitted from the visit as their education and livelihood is vastly different to our own. Did you know that some of their classes have up to a hundred children being taught at one time by one teacher?

We were also happy to welcome Mr Keller from Switzerland into our Year 5 class for three weeks. He helped out with various groups throughout his stay and even taught a few lessons across the school, sharing some traditional Swiss tales with our children.

During the visit, all teachers were treated to a variety of event, including a trip to the cinema, bowling, Abergwili museum, Llnasteffan Castle, meals out, the Mokete in Lampeter, etc. All three teachers spent time in a variety of classrooms and were able to spend some time teaching our children. Our staff are looking forward to our next visit to Lesotho to learn more about their culture and education system.

Special thanks must go to Mr Macey for hosting the Lesotho teachers all week, to Mrs Davies for planning the week and arranging the administration for their visits, to Mrs Morris for hosting Mr Keller for a couple of nights, to Mr Howells for welcoming Mr Keller into his class for three weeks and to every member of staff for giving up their valuable time in making our visitors feel so welcome! What an experience!
