As a result of our fishing club which has been held every Wednesday during the year, a few children from Year 6 were able to put their new skills to the test by attending a fly fishing day at Garnffrwd Trout Fishery in Mynydd Cerrig.
Children tied their own flies during the club and they used these flies to catch the fish. The practise they had of casting on the school field came in useful as they had to cast over long distances on the lake. The children reeled the fish in and caught the fish themselves in the nets.
The children had a fantastic day and they each caught a 5lb trout which they were able to take home with them. A special thank you needs to go to Mr Fred Burton who is a local fisherman who has been developing the pupils' skills throughout the year in our club. This was an experience which the children will never forget!
Children will now be developing these skills in a Welsh competition later in the month against anglers of various ages. We wish them the very best of luck!
